“Why I don the hijab #4

- Alhamdulillah, syukur to Allah for giving me the hidayah to don the hijab. Firstly I must say I am proud to be a hijabi. Reason why is simply because I love Allah and I love Islam. It gives me a sense of identity as a Muslim woman. Islam means submission to Allah (SWT) in all our action. Allah (SWT) states in Holy Qur’an: “And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known.

I started practicing wearing hijab when I was 10 years old. In the beginning, I was still young and doesn’t really know much about Islam and the importance of wearing hijab. Since I was schooling in a government-mix school, hence I had to don the school uniform and unable to don the hijab. Mum and dad practiced me to don the hijab whenever im outside of school, which means so long as I am not attending school, I try to don hijab once in a while to get the hang of it. I only don hijab especially when im out with my family. I thought hijab makes me look old, because then, the hijab styles aren’t much and we only don the simple styles and my dressing styles was very simple. Kurtas with jeans and pants with hijab, or even plain dresses with hijab. As I get older and reached puberty in my secondary years, I learnt more of Islam via my religious classes attended during the weekends. My religious teachers taught us the importance of modesty, and that modesty is faith. I begin to accept the facts and understood the impor tance of hijab and started to build the faith within me and I started loving hijab.
I decided to wear the hijab permanently, at my own will, at the age of 16. Things got easier for me when I entered polytechnic the next year where I can don hijab easily as the system in poly allows us to wear our own home clothes. The love I had donning the hijab grew as days pass by. I created my own sense of fashion, I wore what I feel comfortable in, so long as it is not too fitting and is still modest, elegant and depicts as a Muslimah. I even tried creating a few hijab styles that I can think of. The most important thing about Hijab is that it gives you an identity of a Muslim. Moreover hijab also gives us women an air of authority, dignity and respect as well

Due to my love and passion for hijab, I eventually did some video tutorials on various ways of donning the hijab in the modest, simple yet “trendy” way which can be found in my Youtube Channel. I also had a website selling hijabs which started in late 2009 and has been recently closed down due to my heavy commitments. =( Nevertheless, im glad that it spurred on many sisters around me to start donning the hijab and asking me for tips and advices on wearing hijab as well. There are many many ways of donning the hijab now and we can even be spoilt for choices! But I always remind myself not to get carried away with the new trends and fashions that is upcoming. Just wear something that is simple, nice and main thing is modest and covered properly. Up till date, Its now 8 years im permanently donning my hijab and I can never stop saying Alhamdulillah…I love what I wear everyday. Those dresses, trenchcoats, abaya and jubahs and Insya’Allah as time pass by, when im married next year, with Allah’s blessings, I hope I can even improvise my way of dressings as an even proper Muslimah wearing lots of jubbahs and abayas as well as even more loose clothes compared to now…May Allah bless us all sisters and may HE gives hidayah to those who have yet to don the hijab, to don them one day Ameen

Why don on the hijab #3

- Assalamualaikum,

I started wearing hijab three months ago. I am 24. Initially I always plan to wear after I turned 30 or after I am married. I was in the train and I sat opposite two girls who were wearing hijab. I felt slightly uncomfortable which usually I don’t cos I felt that before my clothes weren’t revealing. When the two girls alighted I happened to look at their feet and I saw that they wear stockings. Masya-allah I said in my heart that is the right way to dress. Covering everything except the face and the two hands. On the day itself I keep contemplating to wear it. And I did a month later. Alhamdulilah.

The Prophet s.a.w. said: “He who does not thank people is unthankful to Allah.”

Islam is a religion for the whole mankind. It is a religion for men. It is a religion for Women. It is a religion that takes in to account no doubt the era and time we live in, but it does not bend to fit philosophies or ideologies. There is no such thing as an Islamic socialism, there is no such thing as Islamic communism, or Islamic liberalism. Islam is Islam as it was in the time of revelation over 1400 years ago. The religion and its doctrine doesn’t change overtime. The legislation doesn’t change. It does not mean that it is only suitable for an era that is over 1400 years old.Islam is suitable for every era and time because it has the flexibility within the legislation of Islam to adapt to every era and time we live in, but that does not mean that it compromises its ideals, its doctrine, its creed, or its believe. The revelation does not change.
